New construction - Phase 2 - Outside Walls and roofs

September 11th and 12th

The outside walls are being built. The concrete is poured above the windows. Steel bars are being inserted into the hollow bricks in all corners as well as every 5’ distance. The cement is poured into the bricks. The steel bars are taller than the walls and peek out on top.

An anchor (ring anchor) is poured over the outside walls. The anchor is then supported with steel and reinforced with concrete.

Steel bands are added to the anchor every 3’ and these reach approx. 1’ above the anchor and will later be used to attach the roof bars

Construction of the roof

Roof construction here in Naples is slightly different than in Europe or Northern parts of US since we do not have any heavy snow storms and therefore the roof bars do not have to be as thick.

During this time one can already see how the ceilings of the individual living areas will look.

Depending on ceiling height that changes from children’s rooms (10’ high) to angled ceilings in living areas (15’ high). The in between areas, visible in the photo, will be used to run all hoses for the air conditioning of the home as well as the complex and elaborate roof insulation.

Every single roof bar is placed on a sheet of roofing felt to protect from humidity.

The roof bars are connected and reinforced with steel plates.

September 24th through - 28th

The visible parts of the roof bars are installed. These rise above the outer walls and will be connected with screws to the existing roof bars of the construction.

This procedure is the most cost effective since the outside bars are thicker, high pressure resistant and made out of substantially harder wood, like pine.

September 29th  through October 10th

The roof is covered with wooden boards. These are nailed to the roof bars.

October 11th through October 15th

The ornamental
parts of the roof  are erected.

October 16th through October 30th

The roof
is sealed with roofing felt and the ornamental elements are protected with a special foil.

November 10th through November 16th

The outside walls are prepared for paneling and stucco.
November 20th through November 24th

The outside panels which consist of a specially developed plastic are installed. Due to the rain and high humidity factor in Florida wood is not a good material to use and would not hold up as well in these weather conditions. The panels are still unpainted.
December 8th through December 28th

The metal roof is installed and the decorative elements on the roof are covered.

The panels have now received their first coat of paint.
